White Sands National Monument

Next stop was White Sands National Monument. Here is what they say on the website:

Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's largest gypsum dunefield. White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this unique dunefield, along with the plants and animals that live here.

I really enjoyed this park. You stay in your car and take a drive 8 miles in and 8 miles out, with stops along the way. The sands are exquisite and can be a lot of fun!  If you have a snow disc, bring it along, and slide down the dunes for fun!

Wear a hat and BRING SUNGLASSES because the sand is SO white, it WILL hurt your eyes. I felt like I was going to go blind when I took the walking trail, the reflection of the sun on the white sands was so strong.

You will pay or show your pass as you drive in, but the info center is worth a stop for information and buying trinkets.
