Suddenly the sky opened and on this 75 mph freeway, I could not see where I was. The rain was falling so hard I literally was blinded. I could not see the road. I could not see the white line. I could not see the truck in front of me. I had to slow down to about 40 mph and pray nobody would rear end me - but I guess they were all in the same boat.</p><p>Luckily it was only a few miles from my stop for the night, a Love's Gas Station, where I'm hunkered down in my van, with wind battering the sides. This is the craziest weather I've ever been in. </p><p>I looked at the forecast and this is supposed to let up by about 1 am and the sun is supposed to shine. I was REALLY worried it would bring a tornado and there's no place to hide, but the weather app says no ... just serious thunder and lightning storms until the wee hours.</p><p>I'm not even going to go into the station. I'm putting on my jammies and getting under the covers and staying dry.</p><p>And tomorrow I'm treating myself after all this craziness. I'm going to stay at Lava Hot Springs, where I can soak in the hot water and maybe even drum up a massage. I am definitely looking forward to that!</p><p>Above is the storm I drove into. This has been an interesting trip! :::laughing::: I've learned a LOT.</p><p>Nauvoo is hot and muggy and not a lot is open. No real restaurants and the one sandwich shop had a very long line and only served burgers and bits. So I decided to just eat on my own.</p><p>No grocery store here. I went to Dollar General and got some bologna and root beer and that's dinner. Honestly, I'm just ready to be home. I'm going to drive like a bat out of hell to get home. </p><p>No more sightseeing. I had plans to stop at other LDS stops, but have decided I don't need to. I just need to get home.</p><p>The campsite here is pretty and it's quiet. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiPGULrrREp3z9GRYpz264XJTNufJN4guv8IUPmOTbIBbHLYjO8XqKtc2XRTG5iPvuxvz-rqwmYYKUi0BKqO-SqTe5ip-X13XG2QV2nvmkO2yjXeTt5UMsaOEL7oLcFxtBds6L_XSYrw0ZVCZZLvV2X6B87gusgQqoXDNLKwNmVyNNrdUTC35omOul/s4032/IMG_1377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiPGULrrREp3z9GRYpz264XJTNufJN4guv8IUPmOTbIBbHLYjO8XqKtc2XRTG5iPvuxvz-rqwmYYKUi0BKqO-SqTe5ip-X13XG2QV2nvmkO2yjXeTt5UMsaOEL7oLcFxtBds6L_XSYrw0ZVCZZLvV2X6B87gusgQqoXDNLKwNmVyNNrdUTC35omOul/w480-h640/IMG_1377.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><p>If it cools down it should be a peaceful night. <br />There is a shower, which is a plus.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDyQTvALn1TiXlDrlYPgiBjLgxKqq4mSS25lTCKajaeUxvUYOIpS5dU3J8Ibx6iFyrQbTkmqQxTSYiFlJ0ATQgnsk3SQDAM7V2ZUeOC4mZWPPwj62Ot1hUNIIWoOVzwewIdwWyC82y2KwzRg02n2D-HRZB08KD0hD-TPzWrIUrlF0xkCaFWmVoH7GC/s274/download.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="274" data-original-width="184" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDyQTvALn1TiXlDrlYPgiBjLgxKqq4mSS25lTCKajaeUxvUYOIpS5dU3J8Ibx6iFyrQbTkmqQxTSYiFlJ0ATQgnsk3SQDAM7V2ZUeOC4mZWPPwj62Ot1hUNIIWoOVzwewIdwWyC82y2KwzRg02n2D-HRZB08KD0hD-TPzWrIUrlF0xkCaFWmVoH7GC/w269-h400/download.jpeg" width="269" /></a></div><p>While driving on these crazy roads with no turnouts and no place to stop, I got an emergency phone call from Spain. My pilgrims were having trouble in Roncesvalles. Instead of the Municipal Albergue, where I generally put my group, I booked (and paid for) rooms in La Posada. Apparently, they couldn't find my reservation, which was made back in December/January and paid for. </p><p>The poor group leader was probably tired and frazzled, as can be understood. She is doing a great job. I remember my first time. It was overwhelming. But she's smart and she's done the trip before and she speaks Spanish, so all should go well the rest of the trip. </p><p>Anyway, I booked the group a triple and a quad at La Posada, one of the nicest hotels in the compound, which means 3 and 4 to a room which should be AWESOME compared to staying in the municipal albergue with 150 pilgrims. I guess some of them were disappointed they didn't have a private room, though I was clear on the hotel list and on the Facebook page. It is a pilgimage, after all - aren't you supposed to suffer by definition? With no bags to carry and private lodgings booked all the way, the rest of the trip will hopefully make them happy again. Hopefully, they'll be pleased with the rest of the lodgings. </p><p>Sometimes it just feels like for the $1/hour you make planning and planning and working on a trip like this, you just can't please people. It can be disheartening. </p><p>Well, that's all the news. I've had a heat wave, floods, and now I'm dodging tornadoes. Lots to tell my great grandchildren!</p><p>Stay safe!</p><p>Annie</p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-35888989271304733232023-05-11T11:54:00.003-07:002023-05-11T13:14:18.458-07:00Day 15 - Heading Home<p> Today is Thursday May 11 and I packed up and headed West this morning after breakfast with Joe and Rob. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxcgoU1r4NZQzfAs0ZnNl5aR3PYKx23FSkeEs2AjEPyek8k0-LOVT_o6tu1z_jWm2slUljzQw1sN8ntSAhAKe_0TmDR8mDYnfffRsZeAR48KVn4uYgHocxQiIGWbb1AGHcT3gqB_umBiCDib0Hoc2LW14j_IccqfuI8D4aLgRX4UYfL8yFqVRxos9q/s4032/IMG_1342%202.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxcgoU1r4NZQzfAs0ZnNl5aR3PYKx23FSkeEs2AjEPyek8k0-LOVT_o6tu1z_jWm2slUljzQw1sN8ntSAhAKe_0TmDR8mDYnfffRsZeAR48KVn4uYgHocxQiIGWbb1AGHcT3gqB_umBiCDib0Hoc2LW14j_IccqfuI8D4aLgRX4UYfL8yFqVRxos9q/w480-h640/IMG_1342%202.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><p>Rob brought home "Gas Station Chicken" last night for dinner. He and Joe had been raving about it all week and I wonder if this is the same "Gas Station Chicken" that our friend Tony has been talking about? It was pretty darned good!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOp229FesJ4L0I-Eh3lAXQpX0iLCrRnQNreoJHVwIp71lfnERAnXdFVvcQ2pZNtfBvHSeOY3NGUa9XhEDfHOKPXjUwBVP7hWi2wOkKBHkq6tPdYX5O4Ubk3rivgl1Kqrof4EzzHyiOsQgsOXM5jt5juIXRbg9yBYw576C8FRXdl7MMpVTdi7vO37kl/s4032/IMG_1343.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOp229FesJ4L0I-Eh3lAXQpX0iLCrRnQNreoJHVwIp71lfnERAnXdFVvcQ2pZNtfBvHSeOY3NGUa9XhEDfHOKPXjUwBVP7hWi2wOkKBHkq6tPdYX5O4Ubk3rivgl1Kqrof4EzzHyiOsQgsOXM5jt5juIXRbg9yBYw576C8FRXdl7MMpVTdi7vO37kl/s320/IMG_1343.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><p>It was sad to leave after only a week, but I'm homesick and ready to be in my own bed. I also miss my garden and my house. I'm hoping we can fly Rob out sometime before Christmas to spend a weekend with the family. I sure do miss him. But I had a great time hanging out with him and Joe and listening to them play music. Joe and I spent an hour last night reminiscing about our Island days, laughing. It was a good time. I met Rob's new girlfriend, Karylynn - she's very nice.</p><p>Today I drove about 5 hours to a campground on the other side of Paducah, called Shawnee Forest Campground. ($40/night) There is a shower here, which will be nice for morning.</p><p>The drive was hard today between Chatworth and Nashville. It rained so hard I couldn't see and there is (literally) no place to pull over on those Tennessee and Georgia highways. Nothing resembling a pullout or a rest area. It's crazy. The roads just go on forever and ever. Passing Nashville was horrible - there was a car accident which held up traffic - and the traffic was thick and slow. I was happy to get around it. The rest of the way wasn't too bad but by then I was pooped so was happy to finally pull into my campground. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR92GQ1hXziyXVh2PuwuK9R-mUIGSpnifM9Bf45KWR4qunl1tUs2138CnVqaze32tpSNzOqdLl9YIcSsiI1Y2OT9uzJbwuBw-cSS2jLq1ivszhlosVhn6ATwvpyxF64Ij05uEh3-93vb7WImS7V9lwwjQCCzfc25jvLDtaBD03DxtuAEdU_MHFBHWA/s4032/IMG_1351%202.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR92GQ1hXziyXVh2PuwuK9R-mUIGSpnifM9Bf45KWR4qunl1tUs2138CnVqaze32tpSNzOqdLl9YIcSsiI1Y2OT9uzJbwuBw-cSS2jLq1ivszhlosVhn6ATwvpyxF64Ij05uEh3-93vb7WImS7V9lwwjQCCzfc25jvLDtaBD03DxtuAEdU_MHFBHWA/w480-h640/IMG_1351%202.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfjWklnCgqpuE9vmzTY3IWTkpOWuGU4LqeZPkrGF562V9fTgQtAN7qq3pzt6XpZVNB0ypgw0Wk5nc8Cv7Y9Bxpe3bsG9S3NoYdSP1mvzFMnV5jCGyCgLSGjkdznhu_f4xVpUJXl1EOOY0Fg47Pv_DtMq81g29pttyqu5fwUV5Va3XDIdiuEm5Jgt3H/s4032/IMG_1350%202.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfjWklnCgqpuE9vmzTY3IWTkpOWuGU4LqeZPkrGF562V9fTgQtAN7qq3pzt6XpZVNB0ypgw0Wk5nc8Cv7Y9Bxpe3bsG9S3NoYdSP1mvzFMnV5jCGyCgLSGjkdznhu_f4xVpUJXl1EOOY0Fg47Pv_DtMq81g29pttyqu5fwUV5Va3XDIdiuEm5Jgt3H/w300-h400/IMG_1350%202.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPacXy7CSw8w6xigD6JyTglhOaJkV46Wm4tMHOJMPoBTCaJ-8lyJ68OTtrBhKtCacnHU5mQH-FmMzDK4jKSEI8bnKpBNdcL4DIVoZkV1dbLFX4t6fBwB-WCubnXykZMGfm0zSN_MOqaZTWpIrKcaTti9e_46TtxfTlSqhSSbxKrcJzkRjgsPPKGppF/s4032/IMG_1349.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPacXy7CSw8w6xigD6JyTglhOaJkV46Wm4tMHOJMPoBTCaJ-8lyJ68OTtrBhKtCacnHU5mQH-FmMzDK4jKSEI8bnKpBNdcL4DIVoZkV1dbLFX4t6fBwB-WCubnXykZMGfm0zSN_MOqaZTWpIrKcaTti9e_46TtxfTlSqhSSbxKrcJzkRjgsPPKGppF/w640-h480/IMG_1349.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p>It's muggy and hot this afternoon, but there's a breeze and I found a place in partial shade. I think I drove from 6 AM until 6 PM today with a couple of breaks in between.</p><p> I have stopped at Cracker Barrel tonight. I wasn’t really hungry but I’ve always wanted to try this place so I got their chicken and French toast dinner. I ate part of it and will have the rest for breakfast before I head out. </p><p>My son’s house is only four hours away so I will arrive there in the morning. I’ll be so happy to have a few days again of no driving. </p><p>The scenery in Missouri and Tennessee has just been gorgeous and the roads are really nice but again there are no rest stops which means you have to just keep driving between towns. </p><p>I stopped for breakfast at an Amish store. I had seen some signs along the way that said to share the road and the sign had a picture of a horse and buggy and I thought it was just an ad for the Amish store. After I had breakfast and was heading out, all of a sudden a horse and buggy pulled out into the lane next to me really fast. I don’t know where they were going, but they were all dressed in black and it was pretty exciting! I wish I could’ve gotten a photo, but I was going 70 miles an hour . I’m going to try to find a photo online so I can post one here. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGFqaZXxh2I843raUcZ7ROznWrOguAy0iVRmfB5XzdAiNxWVxzlLblRL0VazMfDSc-AnEFAFHcKLhniqrfpo3VU5ONoI_NOF8OpM5ibaYsD5LdYpZ8kyaC5_vTEP7L0-Xs576LQrSMXoy7ZeWsaMyvcWjJfxLORcvJT3cfVHxlCKwFpo_EqPLDabxO/s1179/IMG_1323.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="794" data-original-width="1179" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGFqaZXxh2I843raUcZ7ROznWrOguAy0iVRmfB5XzdAiNxWVxzlLblRL0VazMfDSc-AnEFAFHcKLhniqrfpo3VU5ONoI_NOF8OpM5ibaYsD5LdYpZ8kyaC5_vTEP7L0-Xs576LQrSMXoy7ZeWsaMyvcWjJfxLORcvJT3cfVHxlCKwFpo_EqPLDabxO/s320/IMG_1323.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><p>The store was a lot of fun. I spent last night at the Elks Lodge in Gallup, New Mexico. I had a FABULOUS view all to myself and a great night's sleep.</p><p>Got up and hit Starbucks to use their internet and grab a bagel and for some reason my CarPlay wasn't working. I posted a "help" notice on Facebook and about the time my friends Dean and Carol Sprague called to help me, I had just figured it out. Well, honestly, I didn't figure it out. I just did something (I have no idea WHAT) and it fixed. Hahaha!</p><p>Since breakfast was just a bagel, I decided to have a more substantial lunch. I stopped at a place called Russel's Cafe in Endee, New Mexico and had their famous meatloaf. I have to say, it was probably the best meatloaf I've ever eaten! That and a root beer and I was a happy girl</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLt0alqbnr3gfIhBawrxFatIbTy92z3EYX_ybhmprwbCqiOZw0XjcOyJyrSTQnQCSXrfGSJoUSHvpqJMgdeJ9I3poju3b8WEAaD-vbthq5kDyR3Zy1573yuQyE6GXpDr7YHzhkpJ2DjIdAbHcfzoHUUL7EZPLgiv4pqZsyXJs776OOBmFAouNdJY_O/s640/IMG_1217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLt0alqbnr3gfIhBawrxFatIbTy92z3EYX_ybhmprwbCqiOZw0XjcOyJyrSTQnQCSXrfGSJoUSHvpqJMgdeJ9I3poju3b8WEAaD-vbthq5kDyR3Zy1573yuQyE6GXpDr7YHzhkpJ2DjIdAbHcfzoHUUL7EZPLgiv4pqZsyXJs776OOBmFAouNdJY_O/w300-h400/IMG_1217.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p>I remember Thumper's mother saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all," so I'm just going to say Texas has better roads than New Mexico.</p><p>Oh! And I had a CRAZY experience first thing on the road this morning leaving Gallup. There was a LOT of traffic and some wild man came up behind us doing about 100 mph (literally)!!! He wove in and out of traffic, even driving on the SHOULDER to the left of the middle lane, several times going around people on the wrong side, throwing rocks all over everyone's windshields. People were swerving to avoid him hitting them. He chipped my windshield, the jerk! I said to myself, "That guy is going to kill someone or kill himself!" </p><p>About 3 minutes later, I passed him. He had crashed his car into a semi. The semi was just pulling over ahead of his car, which was smashed up and laying sideways on the right shoulder against a wall. I could see the guy still in the driver seat, so he apparently was wearing a seatbelt. Don't know if he was alive or not but was glad to see no other cars involved. </p><p>The rest of the trip was uneventful and I MEAN uneventful! I'm so happy I drove Route 66 a few years ago. And now, I'm sort of over it. Every place I passed was falling down, covered in graffiti, or just plain worn out. If you plan on doing Route 66, you'd better do it fast because I don't think most of it will survive another year. I'm reconsidering my trip after Rob's house - maybe I don't need to go the way I planned.</p><p>So... tonight I'm in Amarillo treating myself to a nice hotel.</p><p>Tomorrow I plan to sleep at the Elks Lodge in Tulsa, Oklahoma.</p><p>Tuesday, I will arrive at my cousin, Vonda's house in Harrisonville, Missouri. I'll spend a couple of days there visiting my cousins and seeing my mother's sister. </p><p>Then on to my son's house in Chatsworth, Georgia. I'm not sure how long I'll stay there. We'll see. During that week, he'll be at work during the days so I can figure out a new schedule. I think my trip will be shorter than originally planned. I'm a bit worn out and thinking I can skip some of the places I thought I wanted to visit. Home is looking pretty darned good! But... I know me, and that can change after a good rest. So stay tuned.</p><p>Signing off. </p><p>There's a BATHTUB here!<br /></p><p>Happy Trails!</p><p>Annie</p>

I'd been there before so it was a short stop. I took some cool photo-booth photos but it appears I've lost them, which is a bummer. Hoping I can find them somewhere in the van.</p><p>After Kingman, I followed Old Route 66 and realized it's really returning to the earth. There's just not much to see. All the sites are crumbling. Even from just 2 years ago when I drove this route. Twin Arrow is now One Arrow...</p><p>I stopped at Hackaberry's for a Route 66 Root Beer.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXV1v0FKqsR3yxYt-O9QV_Jle5U0xTZo9peIW7KS_ubD6sQFFGhnrWvq-zM3f6yTTSo292JtQy_Og9MsdhhjdsMOQTEFF71Rs7q4zbm3nu8c1GG15RJG30395UeriJAaV95VjzkqblLtdS6KhlcceGv55_ZBCAon1eMG6iEQw1aOk2hSrw0QHOv0Ko/s640/IMG_1184.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXV1v0FKqsR3yxYt-O9QV_Jle5U0xTZo9peIW7KS_ubD6sQFFGhnrWvq-zM3f6yTTSo292JtQy_Og9MsdhhjdsMOQTEFF71Rs7q4zbm3nu8c1GG15RJG30395UeriJAaV95VjzkqblLtdS6KhlcceGv55_ZBCAon1eMG6iEQw1aOk2hSrw0QHOv0Ko/s320/IMG_1184.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><p>Then I headed to Seligman. But the drive was pretty.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I left about 9 this morning and just arrived in Williams, CA<br /> about 5 pm. I was originally going to sleep in Yreka <br />and make a short day of it, but it was early when I got there. <br />In addition, there's a heatwave headed this way <br />and I want to try to get ahead of it. <br />So I drove twice the distance I planned. </p><p style="text-align: center;">I'll get up at O-dark-thirty in the morning and go to Hanford, <br />hopefully getting there early enough to escape the heat.<br /> I have to drop by the cemetery to put some of mom's ashes <br />on her parents' graves, then to mom's friend Marlene's house, <br />where I'll also meet up with MARLA! </p><p style="text-align: center;"> Marla joined my group starting out on the Camino last year, <br />and she had such a great time, <br />I think she was there about 3 months! <br />I can't wait to hear all about it.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Gas in California is crazy expensive! <br />In Yreka, I paid $4.99/gallon!!!</p><p style="text-align: center;">On the brighter side, my van is getting 23 mpg, <br />even as loaded down as it is. <br />So hopefully as I head East, the price of gas will go down.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I'm staying the night at a motel we often stop at.<br /> It's called Traveler's Inn. <br />For the price I'd pay for two nights at the Elks, <br />camping in my van, I have a nice room, <br />with air conditioning, a shower, a microwave, a TV, internet, <br />and a fridge! Can't beat that! <br />And it's clean as a whistle. <br />I love this place!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There's a cute little bathroom and a desk as well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">All for about $89.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm going to do my best to stay on Keto once I get past Hanford, <br />but I know Marlene is cooking, <br />so I'm going to wait to be strict. <br />Plus it's hot as Hades. <br />So I'm enjoying a root beer tonight <br />along with my two 1/4 pound burger patties from McD's <br />(just patties and pickles).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I guess that's it. <br />Gonna go watch some tv.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Life is good!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm happy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Love,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Annie<br /><br />Gas today: $81.41<br />Hotel: <span> </span>$89.00</div><br /><p><br /></p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-89460491409946541112023-04-25T07:49:00.002-07:002023-04-25T07:53:16.674-07:00Changing plans<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCCzzU6Tl39Nx9elCeE74oKsb0-enZ-FNwPsyN9JfXNdemtlIe6ajV_Xp981rRu5Xr55qqGOU7LskAUxJ2QbbGiLtvDM9chs5oeZpROWcyIYz-aXF5lZIHnK5BG6kYkIlmstYVdSnzDv2owRG9umaS6MmPljFYTVxrpB32DqvYMO2DjjgkjvjVILqX/s341/download.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="148" data-original-width="341" height="174" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCCzzU6Tl39Nx9elCeE74oKsb0-enZ-FNwPsyN9JfXNdemtlIe6ajV_Xp981rRu5Xr55qqGOU7LskAUxJ2QbbGiLtvDM9chs5oeZpROWcyIYz-aXF5lZIHnK5BG6kYkIlmstYVdSnzDv2owRG9umaS6MmPljFYTVxrpB32DqvYMO2DjjgkjvjVILqX/w400-h174/download.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> As always, fate steps in and reminds us that nothing is set in stone (Pardon the pun, son.)<p></p><p>So, in January I ordered a new headstone from Santa Barbara Monument Company for my mother's grave at the cemetery in Cayucos, California, where her husband and son were buried. He told me, "It's on the truck right now and we're delivering it today!"</p><p>"Great," I thought.</p><p>Well, yesterday I called the cemetery to be SURE the stone had been placed only to find out it still had not been delivered!!!</p><p>Upon calling the Monument company, I was told, 'I don't know WHY it didn't get delivered but I promise it will get there tomorrow."</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBXKdrMEfUiWyC8wSHqC7farRmBK_OpwvGVB8k_Qxlc_IhdZt9KclLr3jeY40PMn60DwPeMI5skMQWhhD8txBAw1aGYl2P1IZlTZS_KoufgBchibFKISYdL5UpdMfI5JTGQ0pZC_4_b-JHM8GXDJRQ1qtq6iVd_qU0RqLL1ZQjFbV1EJWj2R23bj2X/s612/istockphoto-516246567-612x612.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="407" data-original-width="612" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBXKdrMEfUiWyC8wSHqC7farRmBK_OpwvGVB8k_Qxlc_IhdZt9KclLr3jeY40PMn60DwPeMI5skMQWhhD8txBAw1aGYl2P1IZlTZS_KoufgBchibFKISYdL5UpdMfI5JTGQ0pZC_4_b-JHM8GXDJRQ1qtq6iVd_qU0RqLL1ZQjFbV1EJWj2R23bj2X/w400-h266/istockphoto-516246567-612x612.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Well, now it's only 4 days until I was going to visit the gravesite, and doesn't look like there will be enough time for the cemetery to schedule the placing. They have to remove an old gravestone as well as placing the new one.</p><p>So, I'm changing my plans. I am going to put off visiting Cayucos until I leave for the desert in the Autumn. That means I won't be staying in the Tipi Motel in San Bernardino (bummer) but I'll also save $$$$. Instead, I'll head straight to Barstow and Calico Ghost Town and pick up Route 66 there. It also gives me an extra day or two in the Painted Desert. </p><p>These days, it pays to be flexible...</p><p>See you on the road,</p><p>Annie</p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-64509186940494636502023-04-22T20:49:00.017-07:002023-04-22T20:59:19.250-07:00Stocking the Pantry for my Trip<p style="text-align: center;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; I had two choices and decided on the best quality with a great guarantee.</p><p>Total for 4 new tires, rebalancing and adding siping for better traction: approximately $800</p><p>Ouch! </p><p>However, it was time for new tires and I want to feel confident on my trip, so I'm satisfied with that. </p><p>Just another reason you should have a repair/emergency stash if you are a van dweller.</p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-50462725961872912372023-04-15T07:11:00.007-07:002023-04-15T07:15:40.079-07:00Changed My Plan - Doing it Backwards<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii-Rl615sKsEsHuXzlAj6LdXsKDNzDREIRjLAlRMTiMBWqZihiNASwpIiAaYo4yNTaDqpbfc-tFshhuVCgpYToO3ovGHz9H4CMwqPrd6SaVA8nCVJQuJQ5QwSwYvEGDDdl2-EHUKm_Y8So7rHKMIAzrt_4NxulKJ9dydPR_or-8dBIYuGKWfZ3pQ97/s900/devils-gate-2-martins-cove-2-blue-series-steve-ohlsen.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="900" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii-Rl615sKsEsHuXzlAj6LdXsKDNzDREIRjLAlRMTiMBWqZihiNASwpIiAaYo4yNTaDqpbfc-tFshhuVCgpYToO3ovGHz9H4CMwqPrd6SaVA8nCVJQuJQ5QwSwYvEGDDdl2-EHUKm_Y8So7rHKMIAzrt_4NxulKJ9dydPR_or-8dBIYuGKWfZ3pQ97/w640-h426/devils-gate-2-martins-cove-2-blue-series-steve-ohlsen.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>I worked for two days on my van trip plan, only to call Martin's Cove for a camping reservation and found out there were still FEET of snow on the ground. Brrrrrr!</p><p>So I decided I'd better start in the south and come home on the northern route in June. I spent another couple of days making changes and was grateful I was able to change all of my motel/hotel reservations fairly simply. </p><p>I've joined the Elk's Lodge so I'm able to stay in their lot occasionally, which will help with lodging costs. I went to my orientation last night and had a great time. Wonderful group of new friends!</p><p>Here is my current plan:</p><p>Joe will be home around the 19th or 20th so I won't have to leave the house empty.</p><p>I'll take off around the 27th. </p><p>I'll head down to Hanford first to put some of mom's ashes with her parents' graves, see the Portuguese exhibit at the museum there, and visit a friend or two. Then over to Cayucos to take flowers and see the new headstone I bought for mom and Ken. The fellow who made it assured me it would be set by then. <br /><br />From Cayucos I'll head down to Santa Monica to see the End of the Trail Route 66 sign. Since I'm going backwards, I want to start at the very end. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_b2bJIouYgapO9b1S7cDuz7rdWYhl52jBDF0udzDmHzLZbb9uSilJFgAqgeQt84K-SQMJaR0uCUzWz3jMCdiVeWlUr91vJ23UESn9OCp50nml-fLFvLVloYBy2XRoL-95-TOI4_W1gzlyc_nObtL3ZVuwXQ_E-EK8Aa94rCyzGTpQILy7iH0vjlJE/s1360/End%20of%20Trail.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="907" data-original-width="1360" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_b2bJIouYgapO9b1S7cDuz7rdWYhl52jBDF0udzDmHzLZbb9uSilJFgAqgeQt84K-SQMJaR0uCUzWz3jMCdiVeWlUr91vJ23UESn9OCp50nml-fLFvLVloYBy2XRoL-95-TOI4_W1gzlyc_nObtL3ZVuwXQ_E-EK8Aa94rCyzGTpQILy7iH0vjlJE/w640-h426/End%20of%20Trail.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><p>From there I'll head to San Bernardino and the Wigwam Hotel. I've always wanted to sleep in one of those wigwam hotels! When I was younger, Lance and I bought an 18 foot tipi and loved camping in it. This should bring back some memories!</p><p>From San Bernardino I'll follow Old Route 66 all the way to Springfield, Missouri, where I'll take a detour to visit my cousins who live there. </p><p>Then down to Georgia to visit my son for a few days. </p><p>Then to Annapolis to visit my grandson.</p><p>From there, I'll head up to Vermont, New York to visit some LDS sites. I'll stop for a night at Niagra Falls. Then to Chicago and down Route 66 back to where I left off at Springfield. </p><p>From there, I'll shoot up to Nauvoo and see Winter Quarters, Martin's Cove, and Salt Lake City. Then back home. </p><p>I figure the trip will take about 6 or 7 weeks. </p><p>For those who'd like to follow me, just save the blog address and check in every few days. I don't believe Blogger still notifies you when I make a new post - which is annoying as heck - but I don't have time to change platforms. Can someone who is following please let me know? I've visited most of Western Europe and I've seen some of the Western United States but except for short stints living in Florida and Georgia, I've never seen the Eastern side of the country. My son, Rob, moved to Georgia last summer, and I miss him like crazy, and that is what started this trip plan.</p><p>I'm hoping to start around April 22 after Joe returns home from the desert. I don't want to leave the house empty, and anytime before that will be too cold. <br /><br />I love genealogy and part of the trip will be seeing my ancestor's digs, part will be visiting cousins, part will be seeing ancient mounds in America, and part will be visiting LDS historical sites. </p><p>I also want to visit my grandson who is at Annapolis! He's very excited because on May 17, the Naval Academy is holding the Herndon Climb, and I'll be there to watch him climb! (Oops! He just informed me that it is the Plebes that climb and he is not a Plebe! lol!). So we will watch the Plebes climb. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW9gl9HCxlXGtVc2jlY2Qefyd0DHMyxpYWIe38m5cF8r46uD4bRuFIDa3rOTC3go0y77ZvLZvMmJ3WNbT359hL88ONLgMioPoHE0MlGstel0fWv-GPvhH3Tl1HfQXSI8ufIO4Qx9unquWB3RIGeeu50itsh8tpAA-gGPW5AYJAjctC-vWgdFPS3OML/s992/annapolis-herndon-climb-02-wjla-jc-180521_hpEmbed_16x9_992.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="558" data-original-width="992" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW9gl9HCxlXGtVc2jlY2Qefyd0DHMyxpYWIe38m5cF8r46uD4bRuFIDa3rOTC3go0y77ZvLZvMmJ3WNbT359hL88ONLgMioPoHE0MlGstel0fWv-GPvhH3Tl1HfQXSI8ufIO4Qx9unquWB3RIGeeu50itsh8tpAA-gGPW5AYJAjctC-vWgdFPS3OML/w640-h360/annapolis-herndon-climb-02-wjla-jc-180521_hpEmbed_16x9_992.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>Learn more about the Herndon Climb here:<br /><a href="https://www.usna.edu/NewsCenter/2023/02/NAVAL_ACADEMY_TO_HOLD_HERNDON_CLIMB_ON_MAY_17.php">About the Herndon Climb</a><br /></p><p>I'll begin my trip from my home in Dallas, Oregon. It's plenty big enough for a chair or two, or a table, and as you can see, it's high enough for Joe to stand up in, so I can use it for changing clothes. </p><p>The sides drop down and can be staked out tight and there is a door complete with window on the front (see photo with Joe).</p><p>It should be good and sturday in the wind. It can either be strapped to the van cargo rack or there are longer straps that can go all the way over the van and attach to the tires on the other side.</p><p>At only $160, it's cheap rent, and can be replaced yearly if needed.</p><p>I can't wait to try it out!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlgGnrvTDA8S8rjt8TgsxECL_UMoCOaOnCN8xNr-a6Mb4b-RboLh2jE1PpyxYva6vwZlBRf1BM7KxLrWwM9U3L6KBQPjQ7CmhJQOm-R4zoHNyEjn5J6DiRmH5I5F39a5Y_9h98MgkNe8xw-NMKzrt3OR124AIsJiecOw21aoBY3FEMVx69x6a7ykX1/s4032/IMG_5087.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlgGnrvTDA8S8rjt8TgsxECL_UMoCOaOnCN8xNr-a6Mb4b-RboLh2jE1PpyxYva6vwZlBRf1BM7KxLrWwM9U3L6KBQPjQ7CmhJQOm-R4zoHNyEjn5J6DiRmH5I5F39a5Y_9h98MgkNe8xw-NMKzrt3OR124AIsJiecOw21aoBY3FEMVx69x6a7ykX1/w480-h640/IMG_5087.HEIC" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJbsGBMqFWWGLbbiFQIaFhDgz5fEqMRCWmFtGjIBo2nJJj0SVrrAOIgu4E0fVnhmk7jTwdibC0Lz-unP4PrDW92LwegcT84fsCXk-kVMHwKZtm_vsHakmA7xvYmL6APqEwWZQWEXoFtyE5ru0zom9O9mD0RN0brc7HXR2r2OtUKnUDnW8GQta8OCR1/s1330/Screen%20Shot%202022-10-12%20at%209.23.05%20PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="802" data-original-width="1330" height="386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJbsGBMqFWWGLbbiFQIaFhDgz5fEqMRCWmFtGjIBo2nJJj0SVrrAOIgu4E0fVnhmk7jTwdibC0Lz-unP4PrDW92LwegcT84fsCXk-kVMHwKZtm_vsHakmA7xvYmL6APqEwWZQWEXoFtyE5ru0zom9O9mD0RN0brc7HXR2r2OtUKnUDnW8GQta8OCR1/w640-h386/Screen%20Shot%202022-10-12%20at%209.23.05%20PM.png" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo from Internet to show sides down</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-31031308648313770482022-10-07T16:43:00.000-07:002022-10-07T16:43:45.234-07:00Got My Seat Turned Around!<p> I'm so excited!</p><p>I finally found someone to turn the passenger seat around in my Toyota Sienna and TODAY WAS THE DAY! </p><p>HooRAY!</p><p>He only charged me $50. What a deal!</p><p>So... tomorrow I drive to Portland to get my hair cut and to pick up some of Joe's stuff. He's moving into the rooms that were mom's. </p><p>Once I unload, I can clean up the van and reorganize for my Spring trip.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKbG84RJ7mGiQE_2vqHw1T3pe0WpiBLbOB_yrp2c01gx6CfzGJIwjmxROQonknUgVCxpWQXf3RYIbUliwCqyqoDvbqQOL5RV59JT_WW8pu1nxfK2qsVvzxCLoBacMKNWC6nS0nP2RNwLVjs6-Nm1o9EZUVx8FgBIYhj-U3g_ZIsLG4Wz-Z0az4CDYu/s1024/historic-us-route66-map.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="1024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKbG84RJ7mGiQE_2vqHw1T3pe0WpiBLbOB_yrp2c01gx6CfzGJIwjmxROQonknUgVCxpWQXf3RYIbUliwCqyqoDvbqQOL5RV59JT_WW8pu1nxfK2qsVvzxCLoBacMKNWC6nS0nP2RNwLVjs6-Nm1o9EZUVx8FgBIYhj-U3g_ZIsLG4Wz-Z0az4CDYu/w640-h320/historic-us-route66-map.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><p>If you go back to my posts from September 2018, and then June 2019, I completed a couple of sections of Old Route 66 before my mom fell. I had to put the rest on hold while I cared for her. </p><p>In April I'm planning to pick up where I left off. I want to revisit a few places in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. Then I plan to drive Route 66 through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. In Missouri, I'm hoping to stop to see my cousins Vonda, Doug, and Steve. Then I'll drop down to Georgia to visit my son. </p><p>Depending on how tired I am, I may pop up to Illinois and work my way back West. Time will tell.</p><p>Here is a dark photo of my seat. And below that, a photo of what my last Sienna looked like when I was finished. This will allow me to put my battery behind (in front of?) that turned passenger seat, along with a cooler. Plus I love being able to sit in that turned seat to eat or work on my computer. It's also a great place to put my clothes at night when I'm sleeping. It's just so much more convenient.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-N2in5T5VGr01dqnNSvm0mp-bYn8htBIPsxRbUrXHN2PWKmdkKVQ3CbnEHPY7p2GJZ1c4A4ABjbPlmexHtxQF8FsGvBtoLUFpor_wUcDv3Kqwxsn_g1XQACV7tumhWm3Iqi_aMAInG89Qro69sn2hfMu1fd_u5BvBUe9xjaFXhaUQb-4ROin3vtYB/s4032/IMG_5014.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-N2in5T5VGr01dqnNSvm0mp-bYn8htBIPsxRbUrXHN2PWKmdkKVQ3CbnEHPY7p2GJZ1c4A4ABjbPlmexHtxQF8FsGvBtoLUFpor_wUcDv3Kqwxsn_g1XQACV7tumhWm3Iqi_aMAInG89Qro69sn2hfMu1fd_u5BvBUe9xjaFXhaUQb-4ROin3vtYB/w300-h400/IMG_5014.HEIC" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sorry it's so dark.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRxFwY9oNDy85BUAiVtn1JOMqYA7QCS17Pj2BBctuI1-_3bOYF2sQl8x86IscR-k-WYaT4GKtkbJZre1LP0rd4psIwU27m3UO3ZR0G16i7w5ATtDa_fN8pKsJ8JW1JK-UuQ5_eEtd7p-JmLQLtUfmylhtAKmeD78_Is5Fbo4A3VAzP39I8FWx43yem/s640/IMG_6123.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRxFwY9oNDy85BUAiVtn1JOMqYA7QCS17Pj2BBctuI1-_3bOYF2sQl8x86IscR-k-WYaT4GKtkbJZre1LP0rd4psIwU27m3UO3ZR0G16i7w5ATtDa_fN8pKsJ8JW1JK-UuQ5_eEtd7p-JmLQLtUfmylhtAKmeD78_Is5Fbo4A3VAzP39I8FWx43yem/w300-h400/IMG_6123.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Stay tuned!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Love,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Annie</div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-48269031055952818612022-09-21T05:43:00.004-07:002022-10-24T11:07:16.105-07:00My New Oven<p>This coming weekend, I'm taking my first camping trip since hitting the beach early summer. I'm going to an Autumn Equinox Festival with my son.</p><p>We decided we wanted biscuits and gravy for breakfast on the Saturday morning, so I had to start thinking about an oven. I had used a Coleman oven in the past, and though it cooked ok, it was bulky and I wanted a more lightweight solution. I did a bit of research and ended up buying an OMNIA oven. Since I was spending the money, I figured I'd go all out and I bought all the accessories, including a metal pan insert (instead of silicone), a silicone insert for making cupcakes or smaller portions, a windscreen, and a temperature gauge. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I'm 70 now so it's a couple of years old. </p><p>***</p><p>My entire life, I have kept fit.</p><p>I've exercised, watched my weight, and worked out.<br />My stomach has always been flat, right up until my breast cancer.<br />Now all that has changed.</p><p>Since my double mastectomy, I've had what most women survivors call a "Buddha Belly!" There is a layer of what I can only think is lymph fluid that has taken up residence right under my scar line. It looks like man boobs! And below that is a rounded gut that protrudes like a beer belly! And the frustrating thing is no matter how much I exercise, stretch, work out, the damned thing won't go away.</p><p>I guess at my age (68) I shouldn't worry about it, or about my appearance. I mean, I'm not in the market for a husband or even a partner at this point. But I do want to be and look my best, so it does bother me. Plus my clothes are tight around that protruding abdomen.</p><p>While finding, fighting, and surviving breast cancer was challenge enough, the resulting lack of estrogen from treatment seems to have fast-forwarded the aging process, and that's almost more difficult dealing with than fighting the cancer. My skin has aged 20 years. I've traveled my entire life and the roads I've traveled are nothing compared to the roadmap now residing on my face! I look in the mirror and see tucks and wrinkles and wonder, "What happened to you?!"</p><p>The REST of my skin is sagging too! I mean, what the hell!? When I bend over and look at my legs, they look like my grandmother's legs!</p><p>Then there's the arthritis, which came on with a roar while I was taking the Letrozole that was prescribed before and after my surgery. Letrozole is an estrogen blocker and it brings on old age in a matter of days, not weeks! Your skin ages overnight. Your mind gets foggy. You lose your balance. And Holy Hell, your joints become swollen and hot. It's a bitch, in a word! My feet were so painful at one point that I would cry putting them on the floor, even after a short rest. </p><p>It got to the point that I dumped the Letrozole. Whether or not that was wise is yet to be known, but it was so negatively affecting my quality of life that made the decision after about 6 months to quit. With my type of cancer, my ONCO score of zero, a biopsy done with a vacuum apparatus to keep cancer cells from spreading, paired with a double mastectomy, there's a very low chance of recurrence of cancer. For me, the side effects of Letrozole weren't worth the extra months it might give me to live in misery.</p><p>So now, why am I complaining about a Buddha Belly? </p><p>Well, because I'm a woman and I guess I'm more vain than I thought.</p><p>I remember myself being young, sleek, and in shape.</p><p>Now I feel (and look) my age.</p><p>And I don't like it.</p><p>Getting old isn't for sissies. </p><p>Nope.</p><p>But...</p><p>I guess if a Buddha Belly is the price I have to pay for another 30 years of mornings waking up on this beautiful planet, another 30 years of enjoying my wonderful family, of traveling to new and exciting places, making new friends and learning to become a better person, then I guess I'm ok with it. I'll just keep moving, keep working out, walking, stretching, enjoying the sunrise and sunset, hearing the birds, watching my garden grow, walking the Camino, and being grateful for life. And I'll carry that Buddha Belly with me proudly. After all, it's a part of this body that fought like hell ... and won the battle of a lifetime.</p><p>"Peace, Belly."</p><p>"Peace."<br /></p>Anniesantiagohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00605384298382007686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3743947524578848972.post-28494869153617485412022-08-28T18:58:00.003-07:002022-08-28T18:58:52.359-07:00My New Kitchen!<p> Today Joe finally had the time to build in the kitchen in my van.</p><p>I'm SO excited!
